Embrace the Beauty of Staycations This Summer

Embrace the Beauty of Staycations This Summer

Say hello to summer coming upon us shortly! As we navigate the warmth and sunshine of summer, many of us are looking for ways to unwind and enjoy the season without breaking the bank. Today, I want to talk about the beauty of staycations. Whether you're married or single, staycations can be a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with your faith, spend quality time with loved ones, and create lasting memories—all from the comfort of your home and in your neck of the woods.

Embrace the Home Retreat

A staycation allows you to turn your home into a sanctuary. Start by creating a peaceful environment. Light some candles, play soothing music, and consider a digital detox. This can be a perfect time to dive into the Word of God. One of my favorite scriptures to meditate on is Psalm 46:10: "Be still, and know that I am God."

Faith-Based Activities

Incorporate activities that align with your values.

  • Get Close to Nature: Organize a Bible study group with friends over a picnic at a new park or lake
  • Be still: Spend an afternoon journaling your prayers and reflections;
  • Get the kids out: Sign children up for VBS and Christian summer camps (youth can volunteer to help out)!
  • Seeing HIStory: Visit historical sites in your area and investigate as a family, by yourself, or with friends, how God was working in that time during that event.
  • Learn a hobby: You can also explore creative hobbies such as painting or knitting, which can be deeply meditative. Most hobby stores offer group lessons for free. Search and ask around!

Outdoor Adventures

If you have a backyard or a nearby park, take advantage of the fresh air. Plan a picnic with your family, complete with homemade treats and a good book. For those married, it can be a romantic date idea. Single ladies and adolescents can invite a close friend for a much needed in person screen free catch-up.

Free or Economical Options

Staycations are inherently budget-friendly, but here are a few more tips:

  • Cook At Home: Prepare meals with what you have. It's a great bonding activity and saves money.
  • DIY Spa Day: Use homemade face masks and essential oils for a relaxing day.
  • Nature Walks: They are free and refreshing!
